The content in this document regards renovation of the Kirkbride Building (Original Hospital) at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital.
For many years, people have been fascinated with Greystone Psychiatric Hospital. There are many stories about the facility and some practiced back in the day. Also many believe that it’s haunted. Because of such stories there has been gossip, suspicion, disgust and break-ins.
My Fascination with the hospital started when I was young and curious about the paranormal. As I got older I wound up becoming mentally ill. I was in Newton Memorial Hospital and Carrier Clinic, a private facility that specialized in my illness. After I got out of treatment, I made frequent visits to Greystone to visit with people I had met in Newton. I would go to support them in their recovery and battle to fight the diseases that ailed them. Since I was able to recover I wanted to help them get on their path.
When I found out that the hospital was being torn down and a new facility was being built, it broke my heart. I was mortified. The building itself seems to intrigue so many people. Why not satisfy curiosity? If I made this place a public place it would minimize juvenile acts of destruction and preserve a building that helped shape the way mental health is treated today. Plus it’s a beautiful piece of history.
I would hope to partner up with Morris County in some way. Anyone who is interested can make this possible. I would like to partner with the historical commission to help raise funds to make this dream a reality. I think that they would really be important in the process for I am not too familiar with this type of process but am eager to learn. I would also like to get the community involved with donations and benefits(concerts, tricky trays etc…) as well as volunteering during the restoration process.
I am hoping to get my organization up and running before the auction to raise money for the purchase of the building but before I can make a positive decision I would like a tour of the building as well as a blueprint of the original sight to see how drastic of change is needed to bring it back to life.
In closing, I would hope that I have laid out my venture clearly enough. Below I will include my contact information. Please contact me to inform me of anyone else who may purchase the building, with questions about my venture o r to assist me in anyway. Below I will also include the potential name of the organization in quotes. Thank you very much for your time. Hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Kimberly A. Beatty
